Lois Sempele, Assistant Librarian and Evans Ordering New Library Titles
The MED Library is a Community Information Resource Center. It has a collection of over 12,000 books (click here to search our library titles), as well as audio tapes and video cassettes that focus on issues affecting youth at risk such as HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy and poverty. The Library uses the Library of Congress classification system with an online database accessible all over the world. The MED library is the only major library in Narok District and as such, 70% of the library members are community members as well as pupils and students from the various schools in Narok community. The collection of books also attracts local government officials and University students from other parts of Kenya. An online database allows people to ensure the library has the books they need without having to travel to the library and can be accessed on our website.
The Library is divided into three main sections:
Student studying in the new Senior Library
Junior Library: Here children enjoy a variety of resources such as books, toys, jigsaw puzzles, computer games, oral narrations, and reading and writing competitions.
Senior Section: This area serves the needs of students from High School through College. It contains information in subjects such as leadership, management, sociology, science, technology, philosophy, psychology, history, geography, religion, food production, political science, animal husbandry, literature, anthropology, and others.
Multi-Media Library: This is an exciting section of the library for youth and adults as it contains materials on issues affecting youth, including HIV/AIDS, STDs, female education, human rights, the environment, and career development.
