The mentoring program is a vital element of MED. Many of the girls MED sponsors have had to overcome incredible challenges to continue their education. Poverty, the loss of parents due to HIV, and the threat of FGM and early marriage, are just some.

MED provides these girls with mentors who help them discuss and address these difficulties. MED mentors encourage girls to continue their education, help them determine and define their goals, and carve out strategies to achieve these goals.

They also encourage career development, empowering the girls to become the leaders of tomorrow. Mentoring activities are designed to help the girls become well rounded citizens who are responsible and can work well in the community. Mentors meet with the girls for two-hour sessions twice a week and take part in various activities which promote knowledge and empowerment on the many issues affecting the youth.
