Course overview
This day-time course runs for one semester (16 weeks). The course focuses on learning how to construct information systems. Upon completion of the course the students will be awarded a certificate in Basic Information Systems.

Entry requirements
To be eligible for admission into the Certificate in Information Technology, a candidate must pass a MED computer literacy exam

Subjects

Unit One – Programming Techniques
This unit will focus on algorithms, programmes and programming languages, the basics of program design and elements of the implementation language.

Unit Two - Data Communications
The fundamentals of data communication will be discussed, data communication media, data transmission, networks will be explained and network management.

Unit Three – Database Management Systems
Databases will be introduced and its database management systems. Data modelling, an introduction to SQL and the principles of physical database design are some of the subjects covered during unit three.

Unit Four – Web Development
All aspects of web development will be covered, including HTML fundamentals, graphics, Java script, Java Applets, Dreamweaver and many more.
